Post-Feminism

I decided, or rather discovered, today that I am a post-feminist. The definition of Post-Feminism that I most fit with is the belief that feminism is no longer relevant in today's society. I guess I also relate with some contemporary feminists that believe that separating the sexes rather than uniting them is sexism. Many traditional feminists do just that: separate the sexes.

I think that pointing out the differences between men and women rather than the similarities only separates the two genders even more, thus, leading to inequality. So many people are willing to claim that they are feminists but then revert back to pre-feminist ways like depending on a man to live and to be happy.
For example, there are all these shows on TV now that portray "independent" women who are successful and comfortable with their sexuality and have exciting sex lives. On the other hand, their emotions and feelings are constantly at the mercy of men. Go ahead, be independent and fight for the equality! Do that, but don't be a hypocrite and revert back to the traditional gender roles. You can't have both! You can;t pick and choose when you want to be equal and when you expect a man to be in the lead.

I don't get why women fight for equality in the workplace but they also expect a man to open a door for her or pay for her meal on a date. Traditionally, a man would pay for a date because he made more money or he was courting the woman. Don't expect equality AND to be treated differently (like giving up his seat on the bus for you or paying for your meal). You just can't have both!

  1. I have to agree with you here. You are either equal or unequal, and you can't have the best of both worlds
